I would really like to know peoples ideas for a good meal to send to others. I often get stuck for inspiration - how many lasagnes does anyone need?

I totally agree with the disposable dishes concept. I really try to send non-returnable dishes - it's so nice as the meal-getter to not have to worry about washing & returning. Last week I took dinner to a new baby & her parents & with it a plate of fresh fruit - grapes, apples, & oranges. It was a hit - easy & healthy & munchable. I am a pretty okay cook & I still stress every single time I take a meal to someone.

Another fabulous way to take this concept the extra mile, Teresa! You and Linda must be kindred spirits - thanks for teaching us these great ideas.

I agree with the disposable containers too but most of the time I bake a casserole in a pretty dish and GIVE the dish too. I make a really cute tag to attach with re-heating instructions and invite them to keep the dish. I love giving that little extra and pyrex doesn't cost that much at Wal Mart!

Cole sure is cute.

You are so right about this, Kolette. Since Chip was hospitalized, and now that he is home recovering, I am most grateful for all the gifts of meals.

Neighbors and family who have brought things here. Friends who have generously had frozen meals shipped to us, or ordered for pick up.

If anyone thinks gifts of food are trite - think again!

Yes, yes, and yes. Disposable is the only way to go. Such a big help too because neither the give nor the receiver has to worry about a return.

Kolette,

A good option for those who want to be "green" is to send gifts of food in a recyle-able container. Send it in Gladware and say "pass it on", or get some pans at garages sales, fill them up, and tell the recipient to save it for the next time she needs to take a meal.

I like to go to garage sales and get pretty plates to use for cookie at Christmas, and I tell the recipient to "pass it on".
