Tomorrow is the beginning of my Big Picture Classes workshop “Giving Well 2011.”  I am so excited.  Truly I am.  Every other day I eagerly await the email that pops into my inbox telling me that a new gift project is available in the classroom.  I know what each project is.  I designed it.  I wrote about it.  I photographed it.  But I’m not kidding when I say that I get a bubbly, giddy feeling inside when I click on that link and see what gift idea has come to me.

If I get excited, think about how you will feel!  Not only will you be learning how to craft your own gifts, you will be getting a little present in your email box from me that says a new idea is available to you.  Gifts, presents, giving.  I love it all.  Wrap it up in a bow please.  Or baker’s twine.  Man, I love that stuff.

Nervous that you aren’t “crafty” enough for these projects?  Be nervous no more!  Many of these ideas are super-simple and anyone can do them.  I promise.

So come.  Now.

Register.  Now. (happily click here)

Bring your friends and your sisters and your moms and your husbands (I can think of some that like this kind of thing!).  It’s a steal for the ideas you get. Thanks for being a part of it.  Thanks for inviting everyone to join you.  After only a couple of days you’ll be thanking me for sharing my journey with you.  And I like to be thanked.

Hooray for great gifts.  And big bows.  And cute tags.  And telling someone they are special.  Hooray for it all.

Yummy Free Tutorial

I called it yummy.

Now you think you’re going to eat something.

You’re not.

But my “Super Fast ‘Make Life Happen’ Album” is still yummy and tasty and simple.  With zero calories.  Except when you snack on a bowl of Skittles while waiting for the downloads to print.

I like gifts with purpose and this BPC guest blog post is exactly that.  It highlights the type of gifts I like to give and offers you a meaningful project to whet your appetite before Giving Well 2011 starts.  Head on over to the BPC blog for the instructions, photos, and lots of downloads ready and waiting for you to sink your teeth into.

Mmmm, Mmmm, Good.

My Mom's Birthday Gift - Sneak Peek for A Life Well Crafted Workshop

My Mom's Birthday Celebration Project - a Sneak Peek into our Life Well Crafted workshop

We’ve been in celebration mode in our family for the last couple of weeks.  Jason’s sister Kendra got married this last weekend, I have been working on the countdown project for my mom’s birthday (you’ll get the whole project idea and more in our BPS class A Life Well Crafted – click here to register).

…and to beat the holiday rush, I’ve been given a baby shower (my first one was at Creative Escape – thank you, everyone!).

I have been so touched by the sense of excitement that is surrounding the arrival of this little guy to our lives.  People are coming out of the woodwork to celebrate with us.  I guess that’s what happens when you have a baby after 16 years of marriage!

The first shower was for all of my mom’s friends – she kind of thinks that since she had to attend one of our procedure days for the invitro process that this is her baby, too!

This shower was given by a woman who we knew when I was in high school.  Her name is Ila Kofford and she and her husband were empty-nesters who lived in our neighborhood.  Back when I was 17-years-old I started my first business.  I created handmade dolls that could be customized to match the recipient’s eye and hair color.  Plus, I made the clothes in their color choice as well.  I called my business “Kolette’s Collectables” and Ila ordered a doll for every girl in her family.

It might seem like a small gesture but it had a big impact.  She gave me the confidence to run a business and I truly believe that her influence is one of the reasons why it made sense to me years later to start my own scrapbooking and design company – she laid the foundation for that belief in myself as a business owner.

Ila Kofford

Now, twenty years after “Kolette’s Collectables” started, she found out about this new baby of ours and wanted to have a shower for me.  She is probably in her seventies by now and one of the amazing things about her and this shower is that she has recently had some severe back trouble and is unable to walk downstairs.  She didn’t tell me any of this, simply continued on with the shower plans.  She knew that if she told me, I would insist on changing the location of the event.  Because of the number of people who came, we had to have the shower downstairs in her home.  She couldn’t walk down to enjoy the party.  Instead, she answered the door with nothing but cheerfulness, sent everyone downstairs, and had her daughters serve the lunch.

My heart broke when I realized what was happening.  I love Ila for many reasons but her selfless service is such an example of a great woman.  I spent quite a bit of time with her after the shower, showing her the gifts and just being with her.  That was my favorite part of the whole day.

I will never be able to adequately express my gratitude for the sacrifice and love that she showed me that day.  Her example of joyful service and love is remarkable.

But after that day I know one thing for sure…I want to live my life more like Ila Kofford.

I always get excited at the beginning of a new Big Picture Scrapbooking workshop and my “Giving Well 2008” class is the one that I really can’t wait for.  It is so fast-paced with projects every other day and ideas flying around the message board and gallery.  The energy is high and I just love being a part of it.

That, coupled with the change of season when the air is crisper and the colors so vibrant, means I love fall – especially here in Utah with the gorgeous change of seasons that we have tucked here along these mountains.  We truly live in a beautiful place.

I’m always fascinated by the variation in the changes that happen on the trees.  We planted three maple trees this year.  They are the same age, were planted at the same time and in the general same area of the yard.  But two of the trees started turning color about a month ago while one tree is just barely making its change.

It makes me wonder.  This seems so typical of us as humans – some of us are ready to make the quick change and we can’t wait to turn a new color.  Others take things more slowly and turn when they are good and ready.

I think I fall into the second category.  I’m a watcher.  I like to assess the situation before diving in.  It can be both positive and negative – I am good at thinking things through and making wise choices but at the same time, I think my hesitation keeps me from embracing life like I could if I were more adventurous.

Jason is a leaper – he loves life and is ready to grab hold with both arms.  I have learned a lot from him about this and I think it has helped me to become more comfortable with spontaneity as life goes on.  I want to be balanced – a good thinker and watcher but also able to enjoy the moment.  To me, that’s perfection.

Now, in the spirit of giving, Kristi has won our two products for our Giving Well class!  Congrats, Kristi and just email me (kolette@kolettehall.com) with your address and I’ll send out those items to you.

It’s time to start thinking about the holiday season!  My Big Picture Scrapbooking “Giving Well 2008 (still in 2 hours or less)” workshop starts today and there is still time to sign up.  Here’s a sneak peek of one of the projects:

Every other day you’ll get 14 days worth of handcrafted gift ideas that can be created in two hours or less.  It’s designed to help you get ready for the holidays but the ideas can be used all year long for any gift-giving need you have.  Plus, you get all kinds of artwork that I designed especially for each project.

If you’ve never taken a BPS class before here’s a few tips.  When the class starts, downloadable audio files and handouts become available for you to print out.  You can work on the projects any time you want – you don’t have to “login” at a certain class time.  Along with tons of “stuff” to do, each class also has its own message board and gallery for sharing.  Come join me!

In honor of the workshop I have a giveaway today.  Post a comment here about your approach to “Giving Well” or if you are already signed up then let us know what you love so far or why you took the workshop.  I’ll send one lucky winner a package of two of the products I use in the workshop: Paper Trunk Chipwheel and Piggy Tales Slide Book.  (comments close at 9 pm on Friday, October 10)

Registration has officially opened for my next Big Picture Scrapbooking class: Giving Well 2008 (still in 2 hours or less)!   This was a hit last year and so of course, we’ve come back with all new project and gift ideas.

Yes, this is a great opportunity to get ready for the holidays and that is Purpose #1.  However, most of the gift ideas are fabulous for any occasion – all year long.

You get a new gift project idea (with color instructions) every other day – tons of ideas.  Plus, I love designing artwork exclusive to my classes which is included with the downloads (the “Merry & Bright” label is one example).  Digital, hybrid and traditional scrappers love it.

Enough of all that…here’s a sneak peek of what you will find in the workshop:

So, grab your Gift Resource File from last year or start a new one and join me for this totally affordable 4-week workshop.
